Course Description: This course introduces the foundations of statistical machine learning in an interactive learning environment. The material will include both the statistical/theoretical foundations of modern statistical machine learning models as well as instruction on the implementation of these algorithms in R. The topics that will be covered include: regression and classification, resampling methods (cross-validation and bootstrap), model and variable selection, tree-based methods for regression and classification, and ensemble learning methods.
